“Brian! Get in here!”

He quickly finishes buttoning his jeans and runs into the kitchen. “What’s wrong?”

“Something scurried into the laundry room. I have no idea what it was, but it looked like a mouse.”

“Kim, for fuck’s sake, I thought you were hurt.”

“It was in the kitchen. That’s disgusting!”

He turned on the light and got to the door when he started laughing.

“What’s so funny?”

“Come look.”

There on the floor was a tiny mouse. And directly next to the mouse was Mittens, calm as could be.

“Should I take away her toy or let her play?”

“Seriously? I don’t want ‘parts’ around the house. Catch it and do something with it outside.”

“K…but if the mouse is away, how will the cat play?” She threatened him with a cushion. “Fine. Out he goes.” He grabbed a box and dropped it on the mouse quickly. Mittens ran off with the commotion and he slid a piece of cardboard under the box.

“Sorry, dude. You have to find new digs,” he said as he carried him outside.

  1. I like how you turned the phrase around. You’re good at these super short tales. You should join in with the 💯 Story Challenge. 100 100-word stories in 100 days. It originated on Medium, via Zane Dickens.
