T is for Toad

The other night we were coming home late from the airport. Monsoon storms had passed through earlier and there was still a little residual lightning over to the west.

As we headed to the door, a little Colorado River Toad was scurrying away. They are adorable at this size. Full grown ones look like a giant mud splat or cow pie. But they are always our sign that the monsoons are in full swing because they live underground the rest of the year.

Not the best picture with the dark and how tiny he is, but he’s definitely something you don’t find most places.
