Freedom is one of those words that seem to have as many meanings as there are people in the world. I think each one of us has our own definition and how it fits into our life.
Absolute freedom doesn’t really exist in my view. There are always things that impede on that even if you are alone. Eating is kind of important to me and I like indoor plumbing. That said, I decided to focus on freedom as it applies more to our blog.
I saw this quote and thought it was pretty appropriate.
Some tourists think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it is a city of freedom. And in freedom, most people find sin.
John Green, The Fault in Our Stars
I think of the internet a bit like Amsterdam. There’s plenty of diversion for whatever you want. With some exceptions, most are neither good nor bad. Like Jessica Rabbit, they are just drawn that way.
And our blog and social media accounts fall into that category. Yes, there is talk about sex. There is nudity. There are numerous people who are appalled that Snake “lets” me lock him up and plenty who think I just haven’t found the “right” guy yet. And there have been a lot of pushes to get content like this banned to make it “safe.”
Safe can be good under the right circumstances. Safe isn’t so good when it crosses the line into controlling consensual actions. People who come to our blog know what it is. They choose to enter. Our Twitter feeds are marked as sensitive to allow people to choose to see or not see pieces.
We are anonymous except for the people we’ve chosen to bring into our Muggle world. It’s frustrating at times, but if we take the freedom in our hands to give that up, we could be affecting employees and others who would have no say in that matter. And that just is unfair. So, Charmer and Snake we stay.
So, I guess, to me, freedom is allowing me to choose to view blogs and photos that I want to see. To post what we want to post within the community which we are a part of. To have that choice. And, also to allow others to choose NOT to view things that offend them. To be free to be ourselves and enjoy the journey.
“And, also to allow others to choose NOT to view things that offend them.” Amen to this!
And I like that quote a lot!

The freedom to be yourselves and enjoy the journey is a great place to find yourself!
I agree!
Absolutely…it is such a shame that some people have to spoil it for others just because it is not their thing
