Today marks 10 years since my mom died. It weirdly seems like it was yesterday and like it was so much longer ago. Life goes on and we keep going and it’s strange that she hasn’t been here to see things unfold.

My Attic
It is so hard to describe the crazy out of control feelings that you are sure that you are the only one who experiences and feel like a complete freak at time when reality doesn’t matter to your brain.
Or is that just me?

It’s one of those fall days in the desert where it is still too hot to do anything outside that doesn’t involve a pool. We decide to go to up the mountain so we can take a hike because we’ve been tired of being stuck inside during the triple digit days.

You’ve been thinking about the red under the dress all night. I let you watch me dress, your favorite red bra, bikini and garters, all hidden just barely. You watched me cross my legs and bend and flirt and laugh, knowing what was hidden from sight.

We stand beside each, holding hands, left to right, waiting. The music starts and we begin. I turn into your embrace and we move together across the floor, slow, slow, triple step, triple step.

A typewriter on the wooden floor grabs your attention as you walk into the room. Yes, it has been tucked away in a closet for years, a relic from a garage sale that caught our eye.

“Bitch!” I sputter as you splash me and I head for the deep end of the pool. I hear you laughing behind me as I surface, reaching for the edge and pushing my hair back from my face.

Life. Oh that up and down and sideways and topsy-turvy ride that reminds me of a carnival sometimes. The roller coaster fun with the creepy house of mirrors and weird smells and too much.

You walk in the room and there is a blanket and pillows on the floor, music playing from the TV. You recognize the Supernatural playlist and notice the note on the blanket. Undress, have a drink and sit on the blanket

Picking one type of music for me would be impossible. I definitely have my favorites and things that I would rather pass on but so many different genres speak to me.

The clouds had moved in a bit but we figured we had time for a quick walk after dinner. The sun was starting to go down and it was cooling off a little after a hot desert day.

We are sitting at lunch as a bus drives by with an ad on the side and I smirk. It’s gone before you see it and you look puzzled. “Go in and take off your underwear–it’s commando day.”

Trigger warning: suicide
This is definitely not the usual Charmer post. I wasn’t sure if I would write for this post because it’s a subject that has a lot of baggage for me. A friend told me that I should, that what I have to say might make a difference, so…

When I first saw the prompt “Nightmares,” I was thinking that I might not have anything to write. I really don’t tend to have nightmares, or at least don’t remember them if I do.

Yes, moo. Lol. I was thinking about what song to write about today and I looked through several of my favorites–thanks, Snake, for making me try to come up with three favorites. I can’t come up with three. Music is totally dependent on my mood and I go from country to rock to show tunes to pop and all roads in the middle.

Some of you might remember Christian Kane from Angel, or Leverage or The Librarians. He also has an album that most people have never heard of that has some great music–IMHO. Kinda rock, kinda country.

Pink doesn’t tend to be my go-to color for much so this prompt didn’t actually start with the color but with the artist. She is one of my favorite artists for her attitude and love and willingness to take risks.

I am fortunate–well, some might say unlucky–to live in a place with sunshine about 286 days out of the year. Yes, it does get hot in the summer and we rarely get snow but the sunshine is abundant.

I’ve always been a writer. I was the kid who wrote stories on summer break when I wasn’t reading them. I majored in journalism and have done a great deal of technical writing in my job. So, what is the difference when I blog?

I am writing this on Sunday even though it will be posted on Thursday because we are heading out of town. We are going to Las Vegas, aka Sin City, for a mini vacation and it got me thinking about some of the cool and really funny things that we’ve seen and done there.

My first thought, being non-religious, was nope. We don’t do rituals. I tend to think of them as parts of the experience of religion which doesn’t really have a part in my life. Yes, I have a Christmas tree so I suppose that qualifies but it doesn’t feel ritualistic in my head.

I would love to be the person who can put up one sentence or quote and say, “Wow. It’s me. ” It feels like that would mean that I had a strong sense of who I am. THIS IS ME on a plate/post/image seems like it should be attainable, but, alas, no luck so far.

I think back to me at 5 and where we were in the world. I was in Stockholm for over half of the year because my dad was working on a long-term project there. I have some very clear memories and mostly a lot of foggy ones.
