Prince Albert Piercing / PA – turns 1 year old

This last weekend (March 19th) is my one-year anniversary of getting my PA – my Prince Albert piercing. I wanted to follow up the other posts about this experience and give everyone an update.  Luckily, this isn’t about kids turning 1, so no huge array of pictures to endure. 🙂

There’s a link in the top menu bar to the other PA posts if you’re interested.  From just before to time since… it’s all there.

The PA has been, overall, a great thing.  I don’t say “overall” to take away anything from it.  I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Here are some interesting bits I’ve learned over the last year…

  • Let it heal on its own terms.  I saw this a few times with rings as I went up in sizes.  It would go in fine, but then after a day or even a half-day, things would get irritated and just not “right.”  Remove the ring, go back down to the previous size, let it percolate for another week or two… try again.I never got to the place where I just toughed it out – I *always* let the piercing do the pacing.
  • Pay attention to reactions – not all metal is created equal.  Even if the site says it’s surgical quality blah, blah, blah, blah… there can be significant differences in metal qualities.  Yes, I realize you folks with other piercings know this.  I didn’t.  I do now.  You don’t have to buy the most expensive thing in the world, but pay attention and make sure your body isn’t reacting to that latest ring.
  • In a chastity device? It matters.  It’ll take some adjustment to measurements.  Some additional notes on that:
    • For a standard device circumference based on CB6000x sizing, the 2g ring is getting really tight (5/8″ ring) and can be more so if you’re doing captured ball.  SO, you may need to add some space inside the tube measurements.
    • If your PA jewelry will be INSIDE the tube, make sure you allow additional length (for 5/8 ring, I’d add at least 5/8, for example).  This because the ring extends your length a bit, obviously.  And, since it is all inside that tube, it needs somewhere to go.  It’s going to get compressed in there at times, but you don’t want it all the time.
    • It can add a level of noise to the chastity cage.  I think I’ve heard it described as a bit like a cow bell – clanking around in particularly “cold” times.
  • Once you get to 0g if you decide you want to do that, tools are tough to come by, especially for captured ball rings.  And they’re HARD to open, especially titanium.  Consider “spring” balls vs. simple tension captured ball.  Better yet, I’ve found that a segmented ring is cool.  That, and it’s fun because it literally bolts in.  Kind of the similar kink to the chastity cage I suppose.  Don’t lose the allen wrench.  That could be bad.
  • It was definitely part of the whole edema thing – it just needed more time to heal for certain cage configurations.
  • Sexy time is fun.  There are all sorts of new sensations for both of you.  Different positions feel completely different for one or both of you.  I used to think (or be worried) that it would tear out in, um, vigorous play.  It’s not going anywhere.
  • Getting even more personal, in the world of edging and denial, it’s an interesting add-on.  The reason is because when your partner STOPS, looking to keep you right there on the edge, it can be surprisingly challenging because that ring keeps moving around… sometimes pushing you farther toward that edge.  Just sayin.

I know it squicks people out just considering it.  My summary at the time I had it done is right on in terms of my experience.  It was really not a big deal.  I felt the same way prior to getting it done – it’s a weird, scary, painful sounding, why the hell would you do that, thought.

But I love it.  Every now and then it surprises me.  Sexy-time surprises still occur regularly.  Things that don’t seem like they should be changed suddenly have an added edge.  Other times, I expect something different and nothing for me, but for her… she’ll mention (or show) that she can definitely tell it’s there.

I love that it’s our secret (well, you know, except for telling the world here about it, geez) and that I really went out and did it for me, for us.

Really glad I did it.  If you are considering it, have questions or anything along those lines, leave a comment, email me (contact us at the top menu) or hit me up on Twitter (@steeledsnake) – happy to help/talk/answer questions.

It’s always, ALWAYS your choice.  But I am happy to explain what I did and experienced and have experienced since.

  1. I’m still up in the air about getting one. Half of me wants to get one, but then the other half is all worried about the permanent hole it leaves if I decide to retire it later

    1. And yes, it does (leave a permanent hole). (Or at least I presume it does) and that’s one of the bigger concerns I’ve heard too (the other just being the process of getting it done)

I would think it would close up over time, or close up some, but I have zero experience or first-hand knowledge to back that up. Plus, I have read that they don’t close up, just plain and simple.

I do think though, that if it was decided that someone wanted it, it wouldn’t be too big of a thing to keep a ring in it – I mean, there will certainly have one in for a good period of time, it seems like one would adjust to the required changes and not give it a second thought.

      1. I have had mine since 2005 and didn’t wear any type of ring between 2008 and last summer. I had gauged to a 6 before and decided to take a break.

The hole remained but never closed. I had to start back with a 10g ring and subsequently gotten back to the 6.

Seriously considering going to a 0 gauge.

  2. I really enjoy having one as does MrsL for everything external, like last night, because she can attach things to it or run rope through it, etc. Unfortunately, her body has reacted to the last three rings I have used when we try to have sex. I am looking at a titanium as well.

I an now very curious about the segmented rings!

    1. I like the segmented because there’s not captured ball to have running around and potentially into the piercing. It’s just a smooth ring.

I would strongly suggest titanium – the prices are all over the board, so shop it to get reasonable prices. You’ll have to check out several places and just keep digging around, I’ve found.
