She dumped the puzzle pieces out of the box on the table and they scattered on the slick surface. “Want to help?” she asked.
He laughed. “You know how much I suck at puzzles. I think I’ll pass.”
She grinned. “If you’re sure.”
He paused. “Ok…what did you have in mind?”
“Doing a puzzle together, silly. What else would I have in mind?” She had put her face down to sort the edges from the rest and her hair covered her face. Which he was sure had an evil grin on it.
He sat down. “I’ll play. Although I have a sneaky suspicion that this is about more than a jigsaw puzzle.”
“Oh, look, here’s an edge. I wonder how many ‘edges’ are in this particular puzzle.”
“Wait…you aren’t suggesting edging me once for each one in the puzzle, right?”
“What a great suggestion, honey. I think that would be a lot of fun.”
“I’ll be a puddle of gooey sweat and probably die of frustration.”
“I think that might be an exaggeration. Besides, they don’t all have to be at once. Over two or three days seems reasonable since a long weekend is coming up.” She giggled. “I said coming…”
He rolled his eyes and then laughed. “How many pieces are in this particular puzzle?”
“Only 1000. Oh, look, here at 4 more. How many is that now?” She counted the ones she had pushed to the side. “Looks like 13. I think this could be a really edgy kind of weekend, don’t you?”
Phew, I just helped my family member with a 1,000 piece puzzle. Those really are a lot of edge pieces. 😀
