August is such an odd month. When I was still in school, it was the last month of summer. When it started, there was still a lot of vacation still to relax and read. You could still have a road trip and have plenty of time to explore.
In Arizona, now, August is the beginning of school. And not at the very end of the month. A few have already started and most will be in session by the second week of the month. It always comes as a surprise to me because it’s still “summer.”
It is also not really close to the end of summer weather for us. We’ll be hitting the triple digits into October. But it still, mentally, is the border between summer and fall.
So the prompt for August is border. I found this quote that might stir some thoughts about the prompt.
I love borders. August is the border between summer and autumn; it is the most beautiful month I know.
Tove Jansson
Twilight is the border between day and night, and the shore is the border between sea and land. The border is longing: when both have fallen in love but still haven’t said anything. The border is to be on the way. It is the way that is the most important thing.”
