His boss was late for the brunch and Jim was getting bored. He had been been playing with the bread basket and Mai was getting more annoyed as Jim’s boredom grew.
“I’m going to the bathroom,” she said. “Would you please just behave until they get here? He’s looking to promote you and I don’t think he’s going to be impressed with bread art.”
She left the table and he continued to make sculptures with the bread. He had quite the tower going and wanted one more layer, but it just looked silly flat on top. It really needed some height.
He pulled the toothpick out of his drink and used it to secure the bread on top. Success!
“What the fuck are you doing?” Mai hissed at him as his boss and his wife walked up to the table. He stood up and was turning bright red as his boss burst out laughing.
“I knew I liked you. That’s an epic sculpture!”
Mai rolled her eyes and the other woman laughed. “Let’s go get a drink at the bar and let the children play.”
“That’s the best offer I’ve had all day,” Mai said.
