The lights didn’t even flicker. They were watching an intense scene in the action movie one second and were in total silence and darkness the next.
They both jumped at the sudden change and she let out a little scream, then she laughed. “I guess I was more invested in that chase scene than I thought.”
She took his hand. “Should I get out the candles or do you think the lights will come right back on? There’s no storm so maybe it’s just a glitch?”
He shrugged and got up to look out the window. “I don’t see any lights in the vicinity. Maybe it was an accident that took out some poles or something.”
“I guess dinner is postponed too,” she grimaced. “I know the lasagna wasn’t fully cooked yet. We might end up with delivery. Or we could go out, I guess.”
Groaning, he shook his head. “We just got comfortable. I don’t want to put real clothes on again. Let’s give it 10 minutes and then we can order something if the power isn’t back on.”
She headed to the buffet to grab a couple of candles. “At least we can have some atmosphere even if the entertainment is paused.” She handed him the matches after she put the candles in holders and placed them on the coffee table. As he struck the match, the light lit up the dark room.
He took a look at her in the dim light and found himself wanting her. He always did, but there was something about the way the flickering light of the match was on her face that mesmerized him. He almost dropped the match when it got too close to his finger. “Ouch.”
She moved closer and kissed his finger. “Want me to do it?”
“No, I got it.” He lit the candles and pushed them back so he could sit on the table in front of her. “Do you know how much I want you?”
Startled by the change of subject, she visibly blushed and then smiled. “Well, it just so happens that my evening plans just opened up. Shall we take our wine and candles to the bedroom?”
He lay down on the bed and she leaned over to kiss him, her hair tickling his nose. Just as she started to climb onto the bed, the lights came on. “Dammit,” she heard him say.
She pulled her hair around and tickled his nose. “Give me 30 seconds to turn down the oven and turn off these pesky lights. Be ready for me.”
“If you insist…”
I can so understand this: ‘ I don’t want to put real clothes on again.’
It’s a lovely scene 🙂
