B is for Balance

My body balance leaves a lot to be desired. You’d think that dancing would help, and I am definitely better than I was, but I’m still a klutz.

Usually, though, I’m better at life balance. Snake always says that I’m the one who reminds him about balance when he gets wrapped up in work stuff that seems overwhelming.

Last spring was definitely one of those times. When he had to come home for work, everything was out of whack. When you are used to having time apart to do separate things and then come together at night to share, it is hard to spend time constantly together.

To be fair, he was in a bedroom with the door closed, but that’s not exactly the same. Add to this that the lockdowns added tons of work to our business because suddenly everyone wanted what we offer. While the business is always appreciated, it stretched our small company to the breaking point. This was a lot of stress and there was simply no separation of work and home.

We were hardly the only people in this position. And I know a lot of people are still working from home and it’s still maddening to try to separate the two pieces of your life.

There were times last spring when he was working 20 hours a day. There was no time together that wasn’t either sleeping or eating and it really was a strain. We were completely out of balance.

We’ve come through to the other side and are working hard to restore that balance. It’s hard to remember to focus on things that aren’t work when it is so pressing and stressful. And, we are fortunate to be able to have the luxury of that separation coming back.

But balance has to be found or eventually the entire pile will come tumbling down.

“Life is all about balance. You don’t always need to be getting stuff done. Sometimes it’s perfectly okay, and absolutely necessary, to shut down, kick back, and do nothing.”

Lori Deschene

So, here’s to finding somewhere quiet to restore that balance in our lives. Whatever that balance looks like for you.

  1. It’s always good to get back to a place of balance, especially after a hectic time. We have been together daily since the first lockdown and have definitely found a new balance in that. It will be hard for me to return to the office.
