T is for Time Travel

The idea of time travel is always fascinating. I think the popularity of Doctor Who since 1963 until current day, with a hiatus, is because we all want the idea of being able to see different times.

Everyone, of course, has their favorite doctor. Mine is 10 played by David Tennant. Snake and I are both huge fans.

How huge? When we were going to London in 2014, we made time for a side trip to Cardiff to see the places where it was filmed and the museum. We have pictures of us with costumes and aliens. We even made sure to visit the site of Torchwood.

The idea of being able to go forward and backward is fascinating. And, of course, fraught with at least potential perils. Could you change the future if you changed something in the past? My Doctor says so.

“People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint — it’s more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly… time-y wimey… stuff.”

I don’t know where I would choose to go. There are endless possibilities in the past. And, let’s face it, the idea of being able to wipe out a few people before they were born isn’t necessarily a bad thought. The question comes that if you remove one bad person, does another take their place? If not, just think of the positive outcomes we might be able to bring about.

And the future? Do I want to see it? I don’t know. Part of me hopes for a Star Trek future with some sort of alliance between peoples. Part of me worries that it will be much more dystopian. And while I love reading this type of literature, I’m sure that I don’t want to experience it.

But, in general, I think it is possible with the right mix of wibbly-wobbly, time-y yimey mix of ingredients. And I would definitely jump in that blue police box if given the chance.

  2. I think any attempt to look into the future changes it. This even applies to fortune telling on cards. Therefore, any attempts to look into the past or the future, undoubtedly, are so interesting that it is breathtaking, but without a clear understanding, they will lead to disaster.
