C is for Comments

In the six years since we’ve been blogging here, we’ve gotten quite a few comments. A lot of strange spam comments as well, but quite a few good comments.

Quite often they are nice and say that they agree with a thought or they had never thought about something in a particular way. Even more are comments on my boobs which are always appreciated!

The very rare ones that seem to stick in my head are the ones where people have tried to show us the error of our ways.

These comments are never on the level of “How could you possibly think this is OK, this is so dangerous!” They are usually from a person who has years of experience and knows the correct way to do everything. Just ask them.

They know the right daily rituals, the proper way to discipline and if our post shows a different way than theirs, it’s wrong. Period. And they will tell you precisely why it is wrong and shower you with their credentials.

Cool.

There isn’t one way to have a power exchange or D/s dynamic. In fact, I would be willing to bet that not one of them looks or functions the same. Why? Because each one has individuals who come to the relationship with their own personalities, kinks and wants. And baggage. We all carry baggage.

What works for us might not work for you. But, maybe something that works for us might be adapted and work for you. Or maybe something that works for us isn’t anywhere close to what you want. If that’s the case, you should do what works for you.

When we blog privately, we bring up a lot of things that we read about on the interwebs. Toy reviews, fiction, personal anecdotes. Some of it will never be our thing, but it gives us things to think about, ideas to try. Or, even limits that we didn’t know that we had.

Comments are wonderful ways to share thoughts or even a thank you for sharing this. They make people feel like their writing makes a difference. But, the OTW folks?

There just isn’t one. And the fact that there isn’t? Isn’t that what makes all of this life and TTWD so much more interesting?

  1. One of the best workshops I’ve ever been to was “F*ck Your Box! D/s For the Rest of Us” by Stefanos & Shay. It was all about how your D/s can look like anything and there are no rules for what’s correct so long as it feels good for you. At the time, I didn’t realize I needed to hear that—I thought I already knew it, but in reality I was constantly anxious that I was doing D/s wrong somehow because I’m not a classic SF leatherperson. I highly recommend any workshops those two put on. We need more people who publically value and validate non-traditional D/s in our community.

    1. Absolutely–it sounds like a wonderful workshop.

And while we think we know that, it is hard to remember that sometimes.

  2. We all should do D/s and anything else in our lives the way that works for us. There is no one way to do things. As you said, what works for you might not work for me/us, and vice versa. Great post!
