A is for Absolution

Hey! I actually found an A close to the beginning of the month….It happens occasionally

I read a lot. My Kindle has been a game changer for me because I used to have to figure out how to pack enough books for a trip and still be able to bring the rest of the stuff necessary.

Absolution (Ava Saunders Book 2) by [Ellen J. Green]

I’ve never been a fan of romance novels. I like a good “canon” literary piece and still will take the occasional non-credit class so I can read some books that I’ve never tried before.

I’m hoping to take 3 of them this coming summer over Zoom. Two are Nobel Prize winning plays, which I love reading, and one is a comparison between Dicken’s London and current New York.

***just in case you didn’t already think I’m a nerd, there you are***

My favorite genre, though, for relaxing reading is thrillers or mysteries. The last one that I read is Absolution which is the sequel to Twist of Faith by Ellen J. Green. And now I’m on to what I think is the last of the series, Silent Redemption.

Snake is an avid “reader” of audio books. It’s easier for him to find the time to listen while he does other things while he works. And getting through books by listening or by reading is the same in my…book.

My brain can’t follow books, or even podcasts, unless I am driving or something similar. My “squirrel brain” shoots off in 20 directions and I realize that I’ve missed a lot. I need the discipline of sitting with the words in front of me and then off I go.

And, for the record, Snake is a huge fan of the Kindle. He wasn’t really fond of carrying bags full of books when we would travel.

  1. I haven’t jumped on the e-reader train yet — I’m still (and will probably always be) a stickler for bound pulp and ink — but I can certainly see their advantages where travel is concerned.

Audio books… I’ve only ever listened to one, honestly. On a really long drive. It served its purpose at the time, but I don’t like listening to people talk (radio morning show hosts, NPR, podcasts, etc — this is the definition of hell for me) so I don’t think it’s a format I’d engage with unless I had a physical need for it (loss of sight or some such). My dad loves audio books though, so I buy them often as gifts.

    1. I love that it’s so portable. It goes in my bag, to the tub and holds 1500 books. That gives me a choice when I decide that the one I thought I wanted to read isn’t grabbing me right then.

The readers usually don’t sound right to me. And I’m just not a big fan of people talking at me. I think they are great – – – just not for me.

  2. I love my audio books, and love falling asleep with them. Yes, the next evening I have to ‘rewind’ a bit to pick up where I last listened, but they have gotten me back to reading, and am really enjoying it. I will check out Absolution for sure 🙂

  3. I love audio, kindle, and physical books, though my deeper fascination is for the paper or hard back I can hold in my hands. I find that, much like you, I have to be driving to do an audiobook – but I make it through about one per month this way. And the kindle is great for traveling.

I can speed through thrillers – they are like candy if written well. My last was A.J. Finn’s The Woman in the Window.

I also appreciate a good horror, if done well, but it’s been many years since I found one I really liked.

Mostly I read realistic, contemporary fiction.

  4. While listening to audiobooks, there is a high probability of being distracted and missing something important. What doesn’t happen when you read a book. If distracted, then the reading just stopped. Therefore, I agree with you, it is better to read.
