Traveling

Trying to pick one moment or even series of moments that I would like to revisit is SO hard… so, I’m going to cheat a bit and pick a genre of moments that are always the ones that I go back to in my head.

Snake and I have the travel bug. We love to go places, new ones, old ones, touristy ones and all of the ones in between. Road trips, fly-in and -out trips, and cruises. They are all great and each have their own place in our favorites. And recently I wrote about Vegas before and how many memories we have there.

We’ve done a lot of road trips, mostly in the western US. A lot of trips up and down the California coast because it is close and ocean and pretty. Several 5000+ mile treks up through Colorado, Mt. Rushmore, Tetons, Wyoming, Glacier and back down through California.

We have pictures of us with the giant mashed potato mound–Devil’s Tower for those non-Close Encounters fans–and with mountain goats surrounding the car in Glacier. Playing in the snow in June and sliding down sand dunes outside Alamogordo. Whales in Monterey and lots with Mickey Mouse.

We also had a crazy week in Alaska driving all over and trying not to bottom out the rental car with frost heaves. And discovering that July 4th in Seward is the best place to be because of the crazy race up and down the muddy mountain.

Snake surprised me with a trip to NYC one November to see Wicked for the first time. We toured museums and walked Central Park and walked in the rain.

We’ve cruised the Northern Baltic, around the British Isles and Alaska. And geeked out at the Doctor Who exhibits and filming sites in Cardiff. But, if I had to pick the most epic of all of the epicness, it would have to be the trip to Sydney and cruise around New Zealand in 2017.

From the tea shop that we fell in love with in Sydney to the crazy fog in Katoomba and the Sydney Opera House…and then the fjords in NZ and the blue penguins and the Lord of the Rings filming sites and thermal features and glow worms and so much more.

So definitely my favorite memories are traveling with Snake and I would relive all of them again and again. And yes, those are actually *Pictures by Charmer*

  1. I don’t know about mud racing in Seward, but I’ve cruised to Alaska twice and loved it. And I remember fondly my trip to Australia in 1999. I can’t believe it’s been 20 years!!! But it was stunning. I spent only a tiny portion of time in Sydney, but I agree it’s the kind of city that’s easy to fall in love with. I always thought I’d return one day but I haven’t yet. (Sad face.)

Having a good travel partner is a very special treat. It’s not every couple that travels well together. 🙂

    1. We just watched the race but it’s so funny. There are so many injuries from people falling down and they come back looking like they were mud wrestling. It’s just a perfect small town thing.

We complement each other well. He is the voice of reason when I have a meltdown and I am the researcher who finds the cool places.

  2. How wonderful to have been to so many amazing places with Snake. I have been to a few excellent ones but not all shared with my man. However in our job we constantly travel all over the UK, and occasionally abroad, together. And that makes us very close – sometimes too close lol x
