Happy Kinky Father’s Day

Before he left for work this morning, I gave Snake the Father’s Day gift that he had asked for.  I know I’m a couple of days early but I figured that our daughter wouldn’t want to see what he really wanted.  And it seemed a little strange to wrap it up.  Here’s what he asked for.  After we had started our game, he wanted some variety and a larger one so he asked for the XL for Father’s Day.

As I was giving it to him today I thought back to where we started.  We’ve been together since we were both 18.  We’ve been married for 28 years and didn’t get married right out of high school.  I’ll leave you to guess how old we are.  🙂  We were both in other serious (or as serious as you get in high school) relationships when we met and just flirted for months before anything happened.  Let’s just say that we really enjoyed our senior trip.  🙂

Snake wasn’t planning on attending college at the time because he didn’t know what he wanted to do.  I left for a month over the summer for an exchange program and, to my surprise when I came home, he had applied to and been accepted at the college that I was going to attend.  I guess he knew a good thing when he saw it.  *laugh*

In college, we definitely had a very long honeymoon phase of our relationship.  The city where we attended college had less than 40,000 people, but there were a ridiculous number of motels per capita.  How do I know?  All of our spending money went to happy hours and motels.  And, the happy hours were very cheap in those days.  When we first got there, we could only use the ones that were within walking distance of the campus.  After we got the car, freedom!  We were lucky that there were enough motels that we could avoid the walk of shame of checking in the same one too often.  One of our favorite places even had free popcorn!  Score!

We got married, had two kids and things got much more complicated.  We have our own business and both of the kids were very active in extracurriculars, which left very little time and energy for us.  You know, Saturday night if nothing else was going on and we weren’t too exhausted by whatever we had done all day.  I was frustrated and Snake was beyond frustrated.  Our marriage itself never suffered because we’re really good for each other.  We are best friends, we can work together and we love each other.  But, the sex life?  Not so much.

We’ve since realized that it was not really being true to who we are as people that was the problem.  I’m sure if you’ve read our blog, you know that story.  If I’m not dominant, it doesn’t work for me.  Period.  We tried.  It just isn’t a dynamic that works for us.  Snake is much better as a sub.  We are lucky that we just matched long before either one of us had ever really heard of that outside of the fantasy dominatrix.

So, with all of that history, the present made me wonder what my 18 year old self would think of my current self.  Would I have been surprised?  Would Snake have been surprised?  We were always kinky.  That part was always there even during the “meh” period.  I edged Snake long before I had ever heard a word for it.  And luckily our roommates were never nosy enough to discover the rope that we owned.  You, know, for carting things around.  In the hatchback.

I like to think that I would have been pretty proud of us.  That we have pushed through tough times and made it out the other side.  That we raised children who are accepting and caring of other people.  Hardly perfect, but good people.  That we have been accepted by a community of wonderful people online who constantly amaze me.  That we are still in love.  And that we are still finding new and exciting ways of expressing that love.  It really is awesome.

So, I just wanted to say Happy Father’s Day to Snake and all of the fathers out there.  Have a great weekend.  And, you know, if you happen to get a slightly kinky gift, put it to good use.  🙂
